Chasing Growth: How Rachael Turned Determination into Opportunity

When Rachael joined Linkforce in 2021, she had one clear goal: to prove she could thrive in the fast-paced mining industry and carve out a path toward leadership.

From day one, she brought a mindset of resilience and ambition, determined to turn challenges into stepping stones.

That drive set the tone for everything that followed.

Building Skills, Confidence and Resilience

Growing up in country WA, Rachael’s working life started on her family farm in Badgingarra, where early mornings and physical work taught her grit and responsibility. She later moved into hospitality, adapting to fast pace and constant customer interaction, before spending five years as a medical receptionist in podiatry and imaging clinics.

“Each role taught me something different,” she says. “Attention to detail, adaptability and resilience. All of those skills helped build the foundation I needed.”

Her stepping stone into mining came through onboarding and mobilisation roles with smaller contractors. It was a small introduction to a big industry but enough to spark a new ambition.

“It gave me that first taste and made me realise I wanted to go further,” she says. “I knew I was ready for a bigger challenge.”

Where Hard Work Meets Opportunity

Rachael joined Linkforce as a Planning Coordinator in the Projects Team. It threw her straight into a fast moving environment, supporting major clients like Rio Tinto and BHP from day one.

“Jumping straight into multi client mobilisation taught me to stay adaptable and willing to learn. It set me up for what planning can be like during the busiest periods.”

After eighteen months she moved into the Planning Support Coordinator role, where she worked across multiple client groups, mentored new coordinators and supported teams through peak demand.

Three years later she stepped into a role she had been working toward for a long time: BHP Planning Team Lead.

“Over the years, I applied for several team lead roles. While hearing “no” was discouraging at times, it strengthened my determination. Linkforce fuelled my passion for growth, giving me the opportunity to challenge myself and build the resilience that keeps me moving forward.”

For Rachael, the people and systems around her have played a huge part in her success.

“I was genuinely impressed by how closely the departments work together toward shared goals. It keeps everything moving efficiently and fosters a real sense of unity across the business.”

She is proud to be part of a planning leadership team that is helping shape a more empowered and connected culture.

“We are in the middle of an exciting evolution. There is a strong focus on trust, compassion and performance. Being able to contribute to that change is really inspiring.”

And with Linkforce continuing to expand, she sees even more opportunity ahead.

Flexibility That Supports Real Life

Rachael values that her career gives her room for the things that matter outside of work.

“As a Planning Coordinator the 8 and 6 roster with four work from home days each swing gave me amazing balance. Six days off meant I could spend real time with family on the farm and get life admin sorted without losing my entire weekend.”

That trust went even further when she requested a six month sabbatical to travel across the Americas.

“The response was nothing but encouragement. That kind of support says a lot about the company and how much they value work life balance.”

Today she feels supported in managing both leadership responsibilities and personal passions.

“The leaders around me set such a positive example of understanding and compassion. That culture makes all the difference.”

Advice for Aspiring Leaders

Rachael knows that growth is rarely linear.

“When you are in the thick of applying again and again it can be mentally tough to stay motivated. But a no does not mean never. It simply means not right now.”

Protecting People Every Day: How Adam Found His Future in Safety

When Adam joined Linkforce 18 months ago, it was a leap into the unknown, but one driven by a clear ambition. He wanted to become a specialist in something that mattered.

“I always wanted to work in a field where I could make a real impact,” he says. “Health and Safety gave me that opportunity and the chance to help people go home safe every day.”

Today, Adam is a Safety Advisor who feels proud of how far he has come and excited about the role he plays in shaping the future of safety at Linkforce.

Turning Experience Into Impact

Before stepping into mining, Adam worked as a union organiser. It gave him deep knowledge of legislation, conflict resolution and how people and work sites operate.

“My foundation was always people. Understanding what they need and how to make them feel supported. That experience set me up well for HSE.”

Joining Linkforce gave Adam his first real opportunity to apply those skills in the mining world and learn the fundamentals of safety in the field.

His journey has taken him from shutdowns at Tom Price to major projects in Dampier, Paraburdoo and Cape Lambert. Along the way, he’s embraced challenging environments and thrived under pressure.

“It hasn’t always been easy, but those experiences are what help you grow,” he says. “You learn to have meaningful conversations and be there for people when they need it most.”

His role has expanded quickly. He has led investigations, run toolboxes, coached teams and now works closely with external auditors and leadership on decisions that influence safety performance.

“I feel trusted to guide culture, not tick a box off a checklist,” he says. “That is huge for me.”

Safety Leadership That Starts at the Top

What stands out most to Adam is Linkforce’s proactive approach to safety.

“We are not reactive. We do not just close out an incident and move on,” he says. “Aaron, our Health & Safety Manager, pushes us to find solutions that help the entire business. He challenges us to think differently.”

Whether it is researching what has worked at sites overseas or introducing new initiatives that support safer outcomes, innovation is encouraged at every level.

“Everyone is passionate about getting our people home safe,” he says. “It creates a culture where good ideas are always welcome.”

With Linkforce continuing to grow and planning for the future, Adam is motivated by the long term impact of the work being done now.

“What we do today sets the precedent for the next generation of Linkforce. That is why I want to do my best work.”

Values In Action: Agility

The Linkforce value that resonates most with Adam is agility.

“In safety you have to be able to pivot and adapt,” he explains. “You are supporting people during stressful moments, having tough but respectful conversations and helping them stay confident to get the job done safely.”

Being able to read situations and adjust his approach is something he prides himself on.

“It is about being firm when needed but still making sure someone feels looked after. That balance is everything.”

A Work Life Rhythm That Works

Adam works a 2 and 1 roster and embraces the balance it gives him.

“When I am on site I am all in. When I am home I can switch off completely and be Dad. I work on my fitness goals and even fit in some creative videography projects. That balance is incredible.”

It is a lifestyle that keeps him present in both worlds.

A Culture That Builds Confidence

Adam believes Linkforce’s genuine culture is what helps people grow so quickly.

“When I started, I knew next to nothing about mining,” he says. “But every question I asked was answered or I was sent to the right person. People actually look out for each other.”

He sees that support as a key reason people stay long term.

Finding Her Place: How Tylah Built a FIFO Career She Never Expected

When Tylah finished high school, she never imagined she would one day be coordinating tooling across major mining sites. Her working life began in pharmacy, dispensing medication and supporting customers every day. But she always felt drawn to the fast pace and possibility of the mining world.

“I wanted to give FIFO life a proper go,” she says. “I wasn’t exactly sure what that would look like, but I knew I wanted growth.”

Her first steps toward mining took her through an admin role in oil and gas and then into asset coordination, working closely with hydraulic equipment. A move into a steel company followed, where she became an estimator quoting steel for Linkforce’s fabrication division. Maybe some foreshadowing from the universe.

The work was good, but she knew she had more to give. Her three years across oil, gas and steel had provided her a solid foundation in the resource sector, and she was ready for more. “There was nowhere else for me to grow in the job I was in,” she says. “I wanted to challenge myself.”

So, she applied to Linkforce. Initially she interviewed for a Planning Coordinator position but was encouraged to consider a different opportunity. She trusted the process and stepped into an Employee Engagement Coordinator role. And just like that, everything started to fall into place.

Now, with five years of experience in the resources industry, Tylah has carved out a career that combines her administrative expertise with her passion for people and growth.

Growing Through Every Opportunity

Tylah flourished in the Engagement team and quickly discovered how much she loved working with people.

“It is such a unique role. You have to work really closely as a team and you are dealing with people constantly. I absolutely loved it.”

With nothing holding her back, she hoped to eventually make it to site while she was still young. When a site-based engagement role did not pan out, another unexpected opportunity appeared. The Tooling team reached out and invited her to apply.

“I didn’t get the job I thought I wanted at the time, but the one I did get turned out to be an incredible opportunity,” she says. “It has all just fallen into place.”

A Two Person Team Making a Big Impact

Today, Tylah is part of a small but mighty tooling function responsible for stores and equipment across the entire Linkforce operations. It is a role that blends the technical with the human and that is where the magic happens.

“Right now, we are a two-person on site team with different strengths. My back-to-back Taj brings the technical expertise, and I bring the people side from engagement. We visit sites, check stores and support the teams who keep everything moving.”

With different perspectives on how things should run, new ideas are always on the table.

“We have so many ways we want to make things better. I have been able to run with new concepts and processes, and our superintendent Dave is always really supportive. There is a lot of trust and creative freedom, and that is really exciting.”

And with Linkforce continuing to grow, the opportunities for the tooling team are only expanding.

Learning the Tools of the Trade

Linkforce has invested in Tylah’s development both in the office and now on site.

“In Engagement I learned the corporate side of how we operate. Now I am learning how everything actually works out in the plant. I understand things I never thought I would, like changing rollers and fixing liners.”

The more she learns, the more she sees ways to improve how stores and equipment are managed. “The more I understand, the better I can help develop new processes that make how we work more efficient.”

Her training has continued with new tickets including Test and Tag, and she uses these skills to support teams wherever needed whether in depots or out on shutdowns.

“There is so much more I can learn. Linkforce really supports that, and it makes a huge difference.”

Values in Action: People and Delivery

Two of Linkforce’s values stand tall in Tylah’s world.

“People is a big one for me. I am a people person, and I want our stores teams to feel comfortable coming to me for help. But Delivery matters too. Talking to people is one thing. Being able to help them with clear direction is another.”

These values guide how she communicates, solves problems and builds trust at every site.

A Lifestyle That Works

FIFO gives Tylah the balance she was looking for.

“You can do things during the day that you would never be able to do in a Monday to Friday job. It gives me a better life balance. I can focus on work when I am on site and then focus on myself at home.”

It is a rhythm that keeps her energised and excited for what is next.

Her Message to Future Team Members

“Go all in. Do not hold back. Ask questions if you are not sure because there are always people here who will help you. Give it your best and never stand back.”

From the Ground Up: Tim’s Path from Trade Assistant to Electrical Leading Hand at Linkforce

Tim’s journey with Linkforce began long before he picked up his first set of electrical tools. Growing up on a cattle and wheat farm, hard work wasn’t optional, it was a way of life.

“On the farm, you learn early that nothing is handed to you,” Tim says. “You show up, you commit, and you take every opportunity you can.”

That mindset followed him into his career. In 2020, Tim joined Linkforce as a Trade Assistant, he was driven by one clear goal: to earn the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship and prove himself along the way.

Today, Tim is a qualified electrician and Electrical Leading Hand working on the CLAHDO Project, proud of the path he’s taken and focused on what’s next.

From Trade Assistant to Qualified Electrician

Every great career starts somewhere. For Tim, it started with showing up and putting the work in.

“I began as a trade assistant, and worked my way into an electrical apprenticeship,” he says. “It was an opportunity I earned through effort and commitment.”

With Linkforce’s support, Tim completed his four-year apprenticeship, gaining hands-on experience, guidance and the structure needed to succeed. Since qualifying, his responsibilities, confidence and technical skills have continued to build.

“Over the past six years, I’ve developed not just as a tradesperson, but as a person,” he says. “I’m always focused on learning more and delivering the best work I can.”

A Team That Rewards Commitment

For Tim, what sets Linkforce’s electrical team apart is how they recognise and encourage growth.

“Opportunities come from commitment and performance,” he says. “If you put the effort in, it’s recognised. There are genuine pathways for growth, and that keeps people motivated.”

He also appreciates how the team supports people through different stages of life, while still maintaining strong standards on site.

Determination, Every Day

The Linkforce value that resonates most strongly with Tim is Determination.

“Every day on site, I give my best regardless of the situation,” he says. “I don’t let external factors or other people determine my attitude toward my work.”

That mindset shapes how he approaches his role, his crew and every task in front of him.

Looking back, Tim credits Linkforce’s support as critical to his development.

“The opportunity to move from a trade assistant role into an apprenticeship, and then being backed for the full four years, made a huge difference,” he says.

That support didn’t just build technical capability, it also shaped his approach to work and responsibility.

“It taught me valuable life lessons that have helped me both professionally and personally.”

Even now, Tim continues to challenge himself.

“I take on new responsibilities and keep building on my trade skills,” he says. “Every job is an opportunity to improve and do things better.”

It’s an approach that reflects his steady progression into leadership.

FIFO Balance Outside of Work

As a FIFO electrician, Tim values the balance his roster provides.

“When I’m on site, I work hard. When I’m home, I can properly switch off,” he says. “It gives me time to do what I enjoy, like fishing and diving.”

Coming from a farming background where long days were the norm, that balance matters.

“It’s a lifestyle that works for me and helps me stay focused and motivated at work.”

Tim’s Advice
